Camping Lighting Tips and Tricks

A camping light is often overlooked when preparing to go on a camping trip. This could be because the light is just something that feels natural in our everyday lives, even though we do pay for it. You might be tempted to just grab the first flashlight you see in the stores, but don’t, there are actually a few things you should consider in choosing your illuminating camping buddy.

Once you have chosen your perfect light, here are a few things you can keep in mind regarding camping lighting for your next trip.

Reaching the Camp

Even if you reach the campsite and it is still very bright out, install the light right away! Why? Since it is still bright out, the lighting might be something that can fly over your heads. It is not easy nor fun to speed install your light set up when the sun is rapidly going down.

If in another case, you know you are getting into the camp when the sun is going down or has already gone down, prepare your head torches already (better to have one each, but it isn’t really required). Head torches are the best option when getting into the camp when it is getting dark, with everything one has to carry, every free hand is a blessing!

During Camp

Setting up and cooking and even moving around camp would be made easier with a head torch. A portable device may be more suited for you if you require additional power or mobility. Handheld devices come in a variety of sizes and power output levels.

For Ambiance

So now that you are sure your campsite has enough light, why not invest in a lamp too? A lighting that may help set the mood in your camp. Whether you want to make supper, clean up afterward, or simply play cards or backgammon, the method you need to illuminate your space differs. This is a transition from the previously recommended focused light to a more omnidirectional light that everyone may enjoy. Below are examples of what you can use to improve the ambiance;

Solar Lights

Solar lights are an excellent option for providing lighting in your camping area. Solar lights may not give enough light to search for items or cook, but consider them your own streetlight.

Fairy Lights

Also known as string lights, fairy lights are the perfect way to make your tent feel as warm and comfortable as a tent can get, maybe even make it feel more romantic. They are also one of the most affordable options you can get. Perfect to make your campsite feel enchanting.

Copper Wire Lights

This is another kind of lighting that can give you that romantic enchanting look in your camp ground, much like fairy lights. The biggest difference between the two is that copper wires can be bent and you can create pretty figures and who doesn’t like pretty lights.

Tin Can Lanterns

Okay, I will admit, this isn’t something you can really purchase, but a good DIY here and there is definitely fun! The idea is that you poke holes in the tin can, then place a candle inside. Definitely sets a warm cottage-type atmosphere.

Rope Lights

Aside from LED strips, rope lights may be used to liven up your campground. Rope lights are long tubes that contain light bulbs. They’re constructed of various see-through materials that allow light to pass through. They’re also water-resistant, so you can keep them outside even if it’s pouring.

Final Thoughts

There you have it! These are just a few ways you can light up your campsite when you are in the middle of that particular recreational activity! The next time you go camping, make sure you never forget about the lighting you would need. A well illuminated camp is as important as all the food and water you pack, so check your bags and make sure you have your lighting packed!
