How to Store Juice Without Losing its Nutrients

We all know how important it is to consume fresh juices the soonest possible time, in order to avail of the maximum nutrients from your natural ingredients. Nutrients from the juice will gradually be lost from the longer you wait. However, we also know that it is not always that easy and possible to consume our juices right away, much more within minutes.

Before going further into the ways to store juices, it is important to understand that there are a lot of factors that affect how soon the nutrients dissipate. One of these contributing factors is the type of juicer used. Using the centrifugal juicer will mean lesser window for storage. On the other hand, masticating juicers can often preserve juices for up to 24 hours given the right storage temperature.

Aside from the type of juicer, the ingredient you use will also matter. Note that citruses take longer to oxidize and are thus more ideal for more extended storage. Apples, on the other hand, have a shorter window for storage, knowing how quickly it oxidizes. With this, if you plan to store your juice for a later time, make sure that you choose fruits and vegetables with the most extended oxidation period.

The right way to store juices

Given these factors, we can now explore the ideal ways to store your juices. One of our personal favourites is having our own set of mason jars, for the sole purpose of being able to store extra juices. Mason jars have full mouth and often comes with an airtight cover, making it a really ideal container for freshly pressed juice. Glass containers are also ideal since you can easily monitor any changes to your juice, and they rarely have any other toxins that you do not want mixing in your juice or any other drink. If mason jars are not readily available in your household, yet, you could also use those stainless bottles or insulated thermos.

After this, it is important to keep the juice away from sun exposure and store it inside the refrigerator in order to preserve as many nutrients. For longer storage time, consider freezing the juice. Avoid opening one container and returning it back for storage. Once you open one container, make sure that it is suitable for a single serving, which you can consume right away.

This is not a guarantee that no nutrients will be lost from your juice, but you are assured of still having a fresh and healthy drink after 24 hours or less. Remember, naturally made juices, even stores for a couple of days will always be a healthier option than artificial drinks.
