Home designs are becoming trendy these days. We have gone from admiring extravagant designs to looking for more space-efficient and minimalist designs.

Modular kitchen cabinets are an excellent example of a minimalist home design. This does not mean that they don’t have the luxury feel that we admire, but more space and convenience can be found in these minimal designs.

Modular kitchen cabinets do not come with everything pre-installed from the factory, contrary to popular belief. They must first be installed into your home before you decide what goes where for better storage optimization and stylish appearance.

To give you an insight into what modular kitchen cabinets will change your life, here are some pros and cons that you need to think about before making any decisions.

Since modular kitchen cabinets come with smaller parts, it also means that you need lesser time to clean up every nook and cranny of your kitchen.  You can easily spend a few hours organizing your kitchen within the span of one day.

Space Efficient. As previously mentioned, modular kitchens are non-negotiables when it comes to tiny living and it is for this primary reason. Modular kitchens save space because it is built from separate components, unlike traditional cabinets that occupy the full length of the wall. Not only does this give you more room to move but it also allows better use of vertical storage which is becoming ever so popular thanks to modern trends. Since there are no unnecessary parts, you can store almost anything in your kitchen. Modular kitchens usually consist of one to two large drawers that can be used for small appliances such as plates and cups and a lot more.

Decorative. Since modular kitchens are purchased separately, each set can be designed according to your needs and style preferences.  You can even have them custom-made by a skilled cabinetmaker if feel. Newly installed cabinets will be able to look like new ones for years – For those who are into interior design, this is also a dream kitchen to have because it offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to customization.

Cons of Modular Kitchen:

Truth be told, as pretty and functional as they look, modular kitchens are not affordable.  They do require more investment than traditional cabinets.

Installation and assembly are really not that easy to do especially if you don’t have adequate experience with home improvement projects.  If you plan on using modular kitchen cabinets, you would be better off hiring a professional to handle the job for you. Modular kitchens may look nice but they also “age” quicker compared to other types of cabinets because modern trends change very fast, so keep in mind that even though it is unlikely that major changes on your kitchen will happen soon after installation, they can still cause your investment to depreciate over time.

Modular kitchens are extremely attractive and convenient and there’s no doubt about it. But this also means that you should be ready with a bigger budget if you opt for this kitchen set-up. Consult with your contractor or interior designer what works best with the overall house design that you envision.
